Amico Mio Tours

Your friend in Florence

Five hundred years ago the richest families in Florence won the right to sell their own wine, so they cut little hatches into their palace walls. Walking to a shop was apparently beneath them.

You knocked. A hand appeared. Wine came out. Nobody made small talk. Honestly, centuries ahead of its time.

Then the plague arrived and these became the safest bar in Europe. Wine out through the stone, coins into a dish of vinegar, contact with nobody. Florence did not miss a single evening.

Then the centuries bricked them shut. The best idea this city ever had spent four hundred years hiding behind a postbox.

About a hundred and fifty are still in these walls. You have probably walked past six of them today without looking up.

A few have opened again. We know which ones, what time they open, and which one pours the Chianti worth crossing the river for.

That is the afternoon. Four windows, two hours, a glass in your hand and no coach party anywhere near you. Twenty euro.

Then the light goes, the shutters roll up, and the whole city changes shift.

Same guide, different liquid. We meet at the old bridge, deal a card game until nobody is a stranger, and go drink where the people who live here drink.

Somebody always swears they cannot sing. Somebody always ends up holding the microphone with both hands. It is reliably the same person.

Windows, twenty. The night, twenty. Both, thirty — roughly two spritzes in the wrong piazza, except you get Florence and a group chat out of it.

The route

Six hours, seven stops, one very good night

Amico Mio Tours runs two small-group tours in Florence: the Wine Window Tour by day and the Ponte Vecchio Pub Crawl after dark. Both led by us, in English, Italian, German or Arabic.

  1. 15:00

    Affogato first, questions later

Outside Vivoli, where the affogato has been the best in Florence since 1930 and nobody is in a hurry. You get one before we walk. It is the correct way to begin an afternoon.

  2. 15:30

Wine through a hole in a palace

A hatch in a wall opens, a hand comes out, and there is a glass of Chianti in it. No bar, no table, no waiter. Five hundred years of Florence doing exactly this.

  3. 16:30

Spritz in the shadow of the Pitti

Across the river to the spritz window in Piazza Pitti. Orange in the glass, a Medici palace at your back, the light starting to go soft on the stone.

  4. 18:00

    Disappear for a few hours

Go and have dinner. Have a nap. Change your shirt. The city is only getting warmed up and so should you.

  5. 22:30

    Cards out, ice broken

First bar, first round, and our card game on the table. Ten minutes in, nobody is a stranger any more. This is the part other crawls skip and it is the reason ours works.

  6. 23:30

    The karaoke bar

Somebody always insists they cannot sing. Somebody always ends up holding the microphone with both hands. It is usually the same person.

  7. 00:30

The club, until it is done

Last stop, lights down, and we dance until the group decides it is over. You arrived on your own six hours ago. You are leaving with a group chat.

Do the windows, or do the night. Do the whole thing and it is 30 euro. That is the guide and the route — drinks you buy as you walk, at local prices.

Before you come

Where do we meet?
The pub crawl meets at Ponte Vecchio. The Wine Window Tour meets at Vivoli, Via Isola delle Stinche 7r. Tap the map links above and you will be standing in the right spot.
How much is it?
20 euro per person for either tour, or 30 euro for both in the same night. You can book online in a few taps.
How long does it last?
Around two hours. The pub crawl usually runs longer if the group is having a good night.
Do I need to book in advance?
Booking ahead is best, especially in summer. Groups stay small on purpose.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancel more than 48 hours before and you get a full refund, no questions. Inside 48 hours we cannot refund, because the spot is already held for you and the group is set.
Is there an age limit?
The pub crawl is 18+, and bars may ask for ID, so bring it. The Wine Window Tour is open to all ages, though only over 18s are served alcohol.
What if it rains?
We run in the rain. Florence is beautiful wet and most of the night is indoors anyway. If we ever have to cancel from our side, you get a full refund.
What if I am running late?
Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you where the group is. If nobody can reach you within 15 minutes of the start we have to move on, and that counts as a late cancellation.
What is included, and what is not?
The guide and the route. These are pay as you walk tours, so drinks are not included — you buy your own at each stop, at the price a local pays. Nothing is marked up and we take nothing from the bars.
